This Homemade Spiced Orange Shaving Cream smells so good and gives me the smoothest shave I’ve ever had.
Homemade Spiced Orange Shaving Cream
I have this thing about not shaving in the winter unless I absolutely have to. I have no cold tolerance and hairy legs have to offer more insulation from the cold, right? Yeah, I might be a little weird but y’all knew that. Now that Spring is officially here and temperatures are starting to rise, I’m going to have to start shaving on a regular basis. I’ve used all different kinds of shaving cream but was never really satisfied. A couple of years ago I started looking at making my own. I’ve messed around with it, tried different proportions and y’all this one is my favorite. It *almost* makes me look forward to shaving my legs!
Some of the ingredients are a little hard to find in stores so I order mine from Amazon.com. I keep a supply on hand and when I start to run low, I add it to my shopping cart and the next time I place an order it’s already in there.
I throw my coconut oil and shea butter in a glass container on a stand in a pot of boiling water. Pretty much any sort of cobbled together double boiler will work but I recommend using glass because it’s so much easier to clean after.
I let it heat slowly while I wander around or play games on my phone until it liquifies. I pull it off the heat and add jojoba oil and whatever essential oils I’m in the mood for. For this batch I used orange and cinnamon, then stirred it together to combine everything. The jojoba is a little pricey so you can use sweet almond oil instead. I’ve used both but the jojoba seems to add more moisture and offer a smoother shave.
When it’s all combined and smells exactly how I want it, I put the glass container in the fridge for a while to set up. Once I tried to hurry along the setting process in the freezer but I got a phone call and forgot about it completely. When I finally remembered it had not only set, but partially frozen so I had to leave it on the counter to thaw. Not a time saver for me AT ALL.
Once it sets I grab my hand mixer and whip it up until it looks light and fluffy.
I tranfer it to a jar or container I can seal then toss it back in the fridge for an hour or so to give it a final set. I don’t know if that part is necessary but it makes me feel better to do it so I just do. I throw a lid on it and leave it in the shower, I’ve never had any problems with it melting after it sets. If it does get a little less solid, I just pop it back in the fridge for an hour and put it back.
A little of this shaving cream goes a long way, I only need a small scoop (about the size of a dime) for each leg. So a batch this size will last me for the whole spring and summer seasons with some still left sitting abandoned through the winter for the rare occasions that I need it.
This is the best shaving cream I’ve ever used and I’m loving the spiced orange scent. Y’all will love how this makes your legs feel and I’d love to know what scent combinations you come up with!
