One of my all time favorite, must have, shower essentials. I love the way this Coffee Sugar Scrub leaves my skin feeling and the extra dose of caffeine makes my mornings better.
Coffee Sugar Scrub
I have a thing for coffee, I can’t get my day started without it and I have a hard time imagining that you can ever get too much caffeine. I’m not one of those people that bounces out of bed to get started with my day, I need a little help getting my eyes open. My first cup of coffee brings back my ability to speak and the second starts my brain, sort of. Normally I hit full coherency around noon but using this scrub in my morning shower brings me closer to it much faster.
This is a really easy scrub and along with the caffeine boost, it makes my skin feel amazing! I’ve tried it a few different ways and this is my absolute favorite. When I used all white sugar, that and the coffee grounds all but stripped the skin off my body. Brown sugar is a little more gentle and the half and half combination is perfect.
The leftover coffee grounds from my morning pot are just about perfect for making a new batch of this scrub. I have a bad habit of throwing them out before I remember I need them so I keep an eye on my jar and start thinking about the new batch when I’m down to a quarter. When I eventually remember, I dump them out of the filter on a paper towel to dry out. They don’t need to be completely dry but if they’re too wet, they can make the scrub a little soupy.
I keep my coconut oil cool and in solid form for stuff like this. If you start with liquid coconut oil, this will be a huge mess! If it’s a little too soft, I throw it in the fridge for a little while to set it up a bit. It should have the texture of softened butter or shortening (Not an appealing image I know but it’s the best way to describe it.) I measure it into a bowl, add my sugars and whip it up with a hand mixer. You can use a Kitchen Aid, but the hand mixer makes clean up a little easier and gets a little more air in the mixture.
Once I get it all whipped up, I throw it in the fridge for about 15 minutes to set the coconut oil again, whipping it can soften it a bit too much. When I pull it out of the fridge, I throw in the coffee grounds and essential oil. I love using cinnamon in this, I think it is a perfect compliment to the coffee. Y’all this smells good enough to eat but I wouldn’t recommend trying it, it doesn’t taste very good (Ahem).
I move it to my shower jar then throw it back in the fridge for about an hour to set completely, then I keep it in the shower. Every once in a while it starts to soften up a bit too much (Texas summers can be brutal!) so I have to toss it back in the fridge for an hour.
Caffeine is supposed to stimulate your skin and help with cellulite or something. I know my legs look better since I’ve started using it but honestly, I don’t even care. I love the way my skin feels and the extra caffeine boost can never hurt. Y’all, I bet your going to love this as much as I do and you’ll never want to be without it again!
